2020 Skoda Octavia Tipped To Debut On November 11

It was initially thought that the new generation Skoda Octavia would be presented at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show. But obviously, that never happened, as the Czech automaker chose to focus its attention on other models at Europe’s biggest car event of the fall, leaving the Octavia presentation for later on.

Now, we learn from Spanish magazine AutoBild.es that the 2020 Octavia will reportedly be unveiled on November 11. Despite not revealing the source of the information, it falls in line with an announcement made a couple of months ago by CEO Bernhard Maier, who said that the compact model will be presented before the end of 2019.

Slotting between the compact Scala and mid-size Superb, the 2020 Octavia is based on an updated version of the MQB platform, which is also used by the new Volkswagen Golf Mk8, itself due to be revealed on October 24. The architecture’s versatile construction will allow the use of numerous powertrains beyond the usual 1.0-liter three-pot and 1.5-liter four-pot turbo’d petrol and 1.6-liter and 2.0-liter diesel units, including mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants. All-wheel drive will be available in higher-end models.

Aiming for a more upmarket positioning, thanks to the introduction of the slightly smaller Scala, the next-gen Octavia will likely continue to be offered in two body styles, saloon and estate, as well as in performance RS and Scout derivatives. The exterior styling will make it look more like a smaller Superb with Skoda’s designers ditching the current car’s controversial split headlamps, while on the inside, it will get a more upscale interior along with the group’s latest tech features.
